bricks-and-mortar:「磚石和灰泥的」,(與 virtual 相對) 實際存在的, 實體的, (公司等) 有廠房和店舖的,意旨實體空間,通常相對於「網路空間」或虛擬世界。
bricks and bits「鍵盤和位元」
例如:
This organization would foster the transition from “centralized, face-to-face, bricks-and-mortar organizations” to “distributed, networked, bricks and bits organizations” among private, nonprofit, and public sectors in the county. This organization would most likely take the form of a nonprofit corporation chartered to operate county-wide. In addition to providing leadership and advocacy, the organization would coordinate use of the network infrastructure and produce strategic plans for the Network Stations.
這個組織會面臨這樣的過渡時期,從「集中化、面對面、實體空間」到「分散的、網路的、虛擬空間」。這個組織很可能由經特許的非營利組織來營運郡規模(僅次於州)這樣的形式。除了提供領導與擁護之外,組織也會協調網路基盤設施的使用和研擬網路工作站的策略計畫。
